The Ohio Small Police Department Association

Law Enforcement

Professional Development and Education Grant

Grant Announcement:

The Ohio Small Police Department Association is announcing a grant opportunity through OSPDA for members of the association to provide up to one year of advanced training.  At OSPDA, our commitment to department membership thrives.  We are focused on providing real opportunities for professional development to our association members.

Most programs for professional development and education in law enforcement need support for start-up costs in their first year of implementation. To help meet those needs, OSPDA is stepping up.

Agencies selected for this grant will be reimbursed up to the full cost of a one-year subscription to the Virtual Academy Advanced Training Platform upon submission of the paid invoice. Virtual Academy has a vast catalog of advanced training courses as well as the ability to store all training records, host policy, provide roll call training, issue general orders, and organize departmental resources (policy, websites, documents, and manuals).

OSPDA is dedicated to providing professional training opportunities to develop agencies.  Over the last year, many things have taken place driving our organization forward to be able to provide you with this opportunity.

Applying for the grant/What to expect:

Agencies need to submit a grant Request for Proposal (RFP) for this grant opportunity to Executive Director Jeffery Ehasz at: jehasz@ospda.org.

Once the grant request is received, you will be notified if your RFP agency qualifies to receive funding for this training grant.  Before funding, the grantee will receive orientation information regarding funding conditions and the timeline for implementation. An RFP must contain the following:

  • 1.      Title Page
  • 2.      Department Name
  • 3.      Contact Information (name, direct contact numbers for who oversees the grant, etc.)
  • 4.      Population
  • 5.      Project Description which must contain:
  • a.      A 24-hour training plan how they will train their officers 12 months from the time the platform is implemented.
  • b.      A Roll Call training plan on how they will train their officers 12 months from the platform is implemented.
  • 6.      Funding Sustainability Plan
  • 7.      2019, 2020, and 2021 training budget
  • 8.      Closing paragraph on why this funding is important for your agency to receive.
  • 9.      Submit a year-end Microsoft Excel Training Log to Executive Director Jeffrey Ehasz at: jehasz@ospda.org.

Agencies can visit www.virtualacademy.com to access training and roll call content.

Project directors are required to attend a mandatory online orientation once they have access to the Virtual Academy Training Platform to a feature overview.  Please note: the OSPDA Virtual Academy Training Grant is a reimbursement grant. Agencies funded shall submit a paid invoice to request reimbursement for grant expense.
